Class D, 24-Hour Driver Education Course

When to take this course?
  • If you are a Teen (Under 18)
  • If you are an Adult (18 and older)
  • NEW for 18–20 Year Olds (Starting September 30th, 2025): If you are between the ages of 18 and 20, you must complete a full Driver’s Education program if:
    - You are a new driver under age 21, or
    - You are under age 21 and fail any portion of your driving test.
  • If you are a Temporary Resident/Limited Term License Applicant

Anyone applying for a Limited Term License after July 1, 2025, will need to take the Class D, 24-Hour Driver Education Course prior to scheduling your Driving Tests with an Ohio Driver Examiner. This applies to temporary residents in the U.S. who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. If your Permit says “non-renewable, non-transferable,” this requirement applies to you.

Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course

When to take this course?

If you failed your first attempt at either the maneuverability or road portion of the driving test, you are required to complete the Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course before retaking the test.

Starting September 30th, 2025: If you are under the age of 21 and fail any portion of your driving test, you will be required to complete a full Class D Driver’s Education program (not the Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course).

If you are already enrolled: You must complete your course and retest before September 30, 2025. If you do not, you will be required to take the full Class D Driver’s Education program instead.

Who should not take this course?

Do not take this course if you are:

  • A Temporary Resident or Limited Term License Applicant
  • In need of an Adult Remedial Course
  • Under 21 years old (starting September 30th, 2025)

Adult Remedial Course

When to take this course?
  • 2-Point Credit: If you have 2 to 11 points on your license, this course may apply a 2-point credit.
  • Court-Ordered: Not for credit. You are ordered by a court to take the remedial program and will not receive a 2-point credit.
  • Juvenile Suspension: You are 19 years of age or older and are taking the course because of a juvenile suspension that occurred before the age of 18.
  • Suspension for OVI/OVUAC: Your driver's license was suspended due to being under the age of 21 and under the influence of alcohol while operating a vehicle.
  • 12-Point Suspension: The certificate is provided to the BMV as part of the requirements for being eligible to retain or have the driver's license returned due to a 12-point suspension.

As per New state Regulations: Registrations after May 1st, 2022, Enrollment Certificates are no longer issued. Completion Certificates are issued and emailed to the parent and student 24-72 hrs after completion time. Look in Spam/Junk mail if not found in your Inbox.
